Ireland’s Eye Ferries

Ireland’s Eye Ferries began in February of 1947 by Cyril Doyle and his two sons (16 years) and Brian (12 years). As a result of Howth’s popularity among tourists, they decided to concentrate on doing trips to Ireland’s Eye. Since then his son Frank Snr, followed by his grandsons Frank Jnr and Ken have continued the tradition.

Now with Ken’s sons Emmet and Kevin involved, Ireland’ Eye Ferried are a fourth generation family business. Running trips to and around Ireland’s Eye several times a day.

The trips are a scenic tour around the Island taking in the wonderful views and wildlife, and last approximately forty minutes.

For those that are a little bit more adventurous, you can stop off on the island. Why not spend an hour or two exploring, hiking or simply relaxing on the quiet beaches? Go and see the only two buildings on the Island, one of Dublin’s Martello Towers – built as a defense for the Napoleonic Wars, and St. Fintan’s Church. The island is steeped in history, from Monks to Vikings to Norsemen.

This short boat ride is a must for locals and visitors from afar, a unique experience can’t be offered anywhere else in Dublin. After a tiring day hiking up the Island’s hills, viewing the many bird sanctuaries and seal colonies on its shores. Drop into one of our local pubs before you leave. Wash down some amazing seafood with a pint of the black stuff for the full Irish experience.

“Really worth doing the trip around the island. You get great views and see a lot of wildlife up close: guillemots, cormorants and gannets divebombing into the water. We had the boat to ourselves and it was a really special experience!”
