Previously known as Howth Jazz and Blues Festival the now renamed Howth Roots & Blues Festival is broadening its scope to encompass Americana. The festival is curated by Howth musician Paul Byrne (Drummer with In Tua Nua, The Drays, The Guilty Party, The Unelectables). We are delighted to announce that this years headline act is Don Baker. Still performing the songs of Blues legends and adding to the Blues canon with songs and compositions of his own Don Baker has developed his talent from musician to gifted songwriter in his own right. Also on the blues list will be Dublin blues legend Mary Stokes, Polish Blues man Slidin PK and many more.
The Drays released their highly acclaimed Alt Country album ‘Look Away Down Collins Avenue’ to huge critical acclaim in 2015. Featuring songs by ‘The Stars of Heaven’ songwriter Stephen Ryan, this promises to be the most alternative yet wonderfully lyrical event of the festival. Also in the Alt Country genre, Roots singer-songwriter Ciara Sidine will perform songs from her two highly acclaimed albums. And in the Americana vein we have Prairie Dawgs, Rye River Band, Dean Maywood and northern country star Kerry Fearon.
Howth Roots and Blues Festival will have 25 gigs and all bar two of them will have FREE ENTRY. Sponsored by Hop House 13 and Dublin City FM.
